Keenan Wynn's voice

While watching this film for the first time (on TCM naturally) I thought that that was Keenan Wynn playing Quentin, but I had to look it up to be sure. The reason was that he didn't SOUND like the Keenan I was used to.

I wonder if any of you also noticed the difference. I guess at one point he put on the voice that he uses in later movies and it became a signature of his: rather loud and boisterous with a whiny edge.

I'll have to see more of his later 40's and early 50's movies to see when he started using it. Anyone know?

I recognised him from sight but, it's true, his voice is quite different than in his later work.

In this film, he's very good looking and posh. I never cease to be amazed at the layers of talent 'old Hollywood' stars had.

Yeah, I usually don't like Kennan Wynn because of that obnoxious voice of his, but I really liked him in this movie. I can't remember when he first started using that voice. I'll have to rewatch some of his films.

...and he's acting here.
