buddies

More than as a war movie, I see this as a good buddy movie. Keenan Wynn and Robert Walker have great chemistry. Perhaps because they were friends in real life, they really came across as friends in the movie. The scenes where they are acting together flow quite smoothly. Keenan Wynn was such a good and versatile actor, he elevates the movie somewhat in my eyes. I like the scene where he's talking about Hargrove's sad love life with the army chaplain.

It was an okay film. The actors did a good job playing their parts but it's just not the kind of movie I like.

As you say, the buddy aspect of the movie really shines through. However, I hate the kind of buddy movies in which one buddy's lies and antics constantly get his friend(s) in trouble. Even when his pal supposedly meant well, Hargrove was always the one left 'holding the bag.' I don't find that at all amusing.
