Lots of jobs then

When I watch old movies I always notice how many jobs there were for people then with all the uniformed bellboys and scores of switchboard operators, elevator operators -- on and on. That's part of the fun of watching these old movies, getting a glimpse of how people lived then -- of course understanding that this is Hollywood's interpretation.

Lots of low-income service jobs, which is what are becoming prevalent these days too. Laid-off engineers getting minimum-wage jobs at Walmart. The better jobs came along in the 1950s during the economic boom which ended a few years ago.
