Were they F---ables?
"Were they F---ables?"
When I heard this line in a 1945 film, I knew something was wrong.
The actual line apparently is:
"Were they Focke-Wulfs?" (speaker with mouth obscured by glass)
This film needs subtitles, because it's not in any English I can understand, and even for British English there is a lot of era-specific slang and military jargon that you're just supposed to know. Not a minute passes without some new one-time-only linguistic mystery thrown about.
