Mary's age?

First, let me say that I adore this movie. I first caught it last week on TCM (a Greer Garson marathon) and have watched it at least three times since. I think this is the first movie of Gregory Peck's that I've seen where he was so young (and handsome!).

Anyway, as my title says, do we know Mary's age? I don't recall any illusions or direct references. I know in the book, she comes to the Scott house at age 16. But was Greer meant to be that young? I could believe early to mid 20s b/c she looked so so youthful. I had no idea that she was 41 until I looked up the movie year. Peck was 29, 12 yrs her junior, but they really look like they're the same age. At least to me, and they had such amazing chemistry.

So I guess this is just my long-winded way of asking about Mary's age in this film.

Brad:You stabbed me,dude!
Max:I stabbed you,dude!

As you said, there are no direct references that would give us a clue as to what her age what supposed to have been. I'm thinking 21-25 but Garson looked older than that.

Garson may have looked older than 25, but not much, and people especially of her class would have aged more than is usual today.

It's a movie. The actors are portraying roles that have little to do with their chronological ages.
