This movie left out a lot of the novel, like when Francie is 16 and has a career in Manhattan, and her whirlwind romance. If they found a good screenwriter to adapt the book into 3-5 episodes, it would be better than this movie.
shareI don't think it would be better than this film, though it would be different, and interesting because of things added back from the novel that had to be left out because of time.
Several years ago there was a miniseries version of EAST OF EDEN, which included all of Steinbeck's 600 page novel, whereas the feature only covered the last quarter of the novel. Was the miniseries better? No. But it was very good, and really interesting.
I'd love to see a miniseries version of A TREE GROWS IN BROOKLYN. You've now made me want to read it again to see what the possibilities are. Thanks for that.
I think that is an excellent idea. Some years back, I believe it was made into a tv movie. Talk about really sanitized!
If this could be made into a miniseries and include what was in the book, I think it would be great.
Of course, this will always be my favorite adaptation. I wish that everyone could see this film.
