Wonderful dancing

Marc Platt is fantastic in this film. He was basically a fine ballet dancer but he shines in these other styles as well. I just checked and he is now (as of January 17, 2008) at the age of 93! His dancing certainly keeps him young. I auditioned for him once (among about 50 other boys) when he was running the ballet at Radio City Music Hall in New York about 1964. but he chose a tall blond in the back at a glance, who wasn't much of a dancer, withut looking at any of us others. I guess he was just looking for type. It would have been just a one shot job anyway. I wish him many more years of honored membership in the dance profession.
Also, Florence Bates is just wonderful here,as she always was in these character roles. Remember her in "Saratoga Trunk" with Ingrid Bergman and Gary Cooper?

Well it is certainly different assessment when you watch it as teenager a few decades ago and today in 2008. I'm simply astound with his grace as a dancer. He stole the movie with that opening.

His adaptation to presented material is fantastic. Particularly adapting to Hitler's speech. Incredible that I had to discover this name after so many decades. Shame on me.

I would love to see him with Eleanor Powell. I gather they never collaborated?

My Uncle Marc Platt is still alive and well, living near my cousin Donna Platt in California! He recently entered a "convalescent" home, and must be 95 or 96 by now. Still doing well for his age! He was a fantastic dancer, wasn't he?!?! I remember when he was at Radio City Music Hall and he would let us come in and watch the ballet troupe rehearse - of course, as youngsters we were more "taken" with the Rockettes, what can I say?!?! :)

Great to hear that about your uncle. I'm a huge Rita Hayworth fan (along with millions of others around the globe!!) but somehow I had never gotten around to seeing Tonight and Every Night. She's wonderful, as usual, in a movie vehicle that was far from her best roles, but she still radiates joy and stunning skills whenever she's on screen dancing. Marc Platt did a fine job in his role and I was surprised at what a terrific dancer he is. I hadn't known his name before this film. Great to hear that he later worked on Broadway and for Radio City Music Hall. Such great old stories about these actresses and actors working during Hollywood's Golden Age...
