'...Romance' filmed in Yosemite N.P.?

Hi All,

I've been trying to run down a clip of a "fire-fall/waterfall" filmed in Yosemite N.P. In the clip, I believe that Van Johnson and Esther Williams were checked into the Awhanee Hotel in Yosemite. They went out on the patio and looked at the "fire-fall" at sunset.

Apparently, it was a tradition at Yosemite N.P. back in the 1940's thru the 1960's.

I was wondering if this was the movie in which this occurred? Can you help me confirm that this clip is in this movie, please?

Many thanks!

Alan

This movie was just on TCM (they changed their scheduling tonight and ran 5 Van Johnson flicks in memory of his death earlier this month), and I didn't see a "firefall/waterfall". Every time he and Esther Williams were on the balcony or patio, the camera stayed on them. The firefall/waterfall has a website, http://firefall.info/, also good history on Wikipedia. The movie clip is on youtube, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2ZCl5mst10. The man's voice isn't Van Johnson, so I wonder if it's at the very beginning of the movie and it's the husband (actor Carlton Young), not Van (I missed the first 5-10 minutes of the movie).

Just watched the movie all the way through on TCM... the fire-fall/waterfall does not appear in this movie at all.

But I think that parts of it were filmed in Yosemite.

Yes, Yosemite National Park is listed under "Filming Locations" along with a few others.

That scene you remember is in "The Caine Mutiny". Willie Keith and his girl friend May Wynn go away for a romantic weekend at the Awhanwee. It it those two see the fire fall at sunset, in Technicolor. Someone yells "watch the fire fall" just as it happens.
