Who is the young black teenager who follows Lauritz Melchior throughout the movie and ends up singing a couple of arias?

There seems to be very little information about him. Here's what I found on site about Lauritz Melchior:
"Lauritz Melchior later alluded to Jerry Scott when he said, "[Scott] was very much in demand at the night spots. Those who handled him did not sense the danger of overwork until it was too late. Too much singing at the critical time had overtaxed his vocal cords and his voice was injured." (see Melchior, "Can Your Child Sing?")"
VERY sad. Seems he just disappeared and is totally forgotten. But what a powerful voice!

He seems like a teenager, but it seems his voice has not changed yet. Maybe it is just me, but he sounded like he still had his boy voice not his man voice. But he sure could sing, so I didn't mind.

I meant Susan, who played Dorsey's daughter. I was wondering if she was really playing the piano like that. If she was, she had amazing talent and should've become more well known when she got older.
