Melchior's opera singing

I'm sure a lot of people today won't agree with me but I actually like opera. Especially women's soft opera singing voices where there's several women together singing operatically in parts of the song playing. There are many songs like that from the 30s and 40s and you just know you're watching or listening to something from that era whenever you here those soft female opera voices. Those particular soft violins playing in part of those songs also is very 30s/40s.

Anyway, about Melchior's opera singing. I liked it. He had talent. His songs, several of them were very good. And would never find a resort anywhere today where you would ever see or hear that just echoing through the resort like in this film. He sang from his balcony, sitting in the courtyard, in the bar (my favorite, with Esther, "Viva la compaigne"), and on the stage with Tommy Dorsey's orchestra.

I like Puccini over what Melchoir sang -- Wagner. Don't apologize for liking opera, it still is popular among people who love melody which is what real opera is based on. So-called "modern" opera is horrible. But the tradition of beautiful and expressive music will survive longer than what is "popular" today -- outdated heavy rock and music-less rap. In the years before rock, radio stations used to play all kinds of music not just was considered "popular" and not produced as it is today by bands and "artists" that all sound alike, which rely mostly on looks and gyrations for their appeal.

Yes, you are right about music today not to last anywhere near as long as the great 30s and 40s music. And the world today is much more superficial.
