Hoping for a DVD release

The currently available VHS is a poor transfer from a poor print with optical subtitles. Sure would be nice if someone could find a good un-subtitled copy and make a good transfer and add electronic subtitles.

Darn! I bought the VHS last year but haven't watched it yet because my old VCR doesn't work; I didn't know it was a bad copy. Rats.

I shouldn't have been so harsh. It's really only bad in comparison to good modern DVDs. I used to watch this quality of VHS all the time without too much complaint. It's only a few decades since this was all you could get.

And if you like J Tati, you really want to have this, so don't have any regrets. When/if it is ever released on DVD, just say"Hooray" and garage-sale the VHS.

Thank you! I think tv is my best bet to eventually get a dvd recording, since judging by this board there's not a lot of awareness. Odd, considering Tati's substantial reputation amongst film buffs, the inherent charm of the story, and culturally insecure Americans love of all things European. AMC, TCM and Bravo like to hide these little known gems in their 4 am slot; I should check their schedules more regularly, because I have a bargeload of such titles on my wish list. This and Berkely Square are just two of my B & W holy grails.
