I go to IMDB and look up "The Story of GI Joe" - NOTHING!
I look up Burgess Meredith and THEN it's under "Story of GI Joe" - without the "THE"!
Yet, on that page it shows the video cover that plainly says "THE Story of GI Joe".
I have my serious doubts about IMDB's credibility!
IMDb uses the original onscreen title as the main title, not what might be used on posters or video boxes.
The film's opening title cards read as follows: Lester Cowan presents / Ernie Pyle’s story of / G.I. Joe.
There is no "the" in the title, even though most listings put it there.

I found the correct page immediately by typing The Story of G.I. Joe.
Not sure if it’s what made the difference, but you’ll note I included the periods for the initials G.I.
