Yes, the relationship between Sgt. Danny Wilton and Judy Peabody is an example of the subtle sexism that's in a lot of old movies. Even though Wilton is a small minded, not too bright, wet rag, immature, dolt, Judy is supposed to be honored and grateful that he picked her to be a couple with. Him being a soldier is icing on the cake.
Never mind that she has talent and personality up the wazoo. Never mind that Judy could hook someone more suitable any day of the week. Some of the guys in the band were lookers and more talented than Danny, too. Apparently women back then weren't supposed to look out for their best interests but be happy for the first man attach himself.
I wish Judy could just dump Danny and go on adventures with her buddies Gwen, Pop and the band. The band would be better off without Danny anyway, the big, selfish baby. He was more interested in taking care of his ego than doing what's best for the band.
No two persons ever watch the same movie.
