Character Changes from 30's 40's 60's

Did anyone notice the changes through each version in the characters Margy Frake and her love interest.

30's version:
Margy - a relatively intelligent and likable girl looking for a change in her life. Becomes sort of motherly near the end.
Love interest - A nice guy very open emotionally. (Tells Margy he loves her) Seems to truly love Margy.

40's version:
Margy - A very intelligent, although naive, girl. Witty, sarcasitc, and clever. Has likablility and spunk. Doesn't change much throughout the film.
Love interest - A nice guy but lady's man with seemingly many past relationships that were less than honorable. Seems to care for Margy but not necessarily love her.

60's version:
Margy - An extremely stupid and naive child with no likability at all. No personality. Dull. Becomes more annoying through the film.
Love interest - An absolute jerk, but strangely likable. Although he does soften and become a relatively nicer guy toward the end and really seems to care about Margy, why I don't know. (Personally I think Bobby Darin was one of the only things worthwhile in this version.)

Did anyone else notice the big changes in character personality in each version?

I totally agree that the most recent love interest was a slimy jerk, and because he was more "worldly" he kept forcing himself on the girl...

The 1930s and 1940s versions were good, however I did not like that in the 1930s version, Margy lost her virginity in the woods by the campsites. I thought that was vulgar.

We're on a mission from God.
