Some changes from the book

Of course. Always changes.

One major change is that Sam is being paid by Ruston, 6 bits a day. The reason Sam moves from the camp to Ruston's other farm is that he can work on his own, without an overseer looking over his shoulder. He knows the crop won't be his, but he will feel like it's his, since he's making all the decisions. And he only plans to work those acres for a year, and then go back to working in the camp.

Another change is the neighbors -- there are more of them, including one who's very helpful, Mr. Hewitt.

I haven't finished the book yet (just got it) but it's quite good. Sam has a distinctive voice -- folksy and raw.
