In the early part, when she saw the ramshackle house, it sounded
like she said "S--t Hole"

I thought so, too; but later on she spouts another stream of complaints using a phrase that begins with sh--, which was not "s--t hole." I really doubt the censors would have allowed that phrase into a movie back then.

I've wondered about that for around twenty years, ever since I played a VHS tape of the movie I bought from a mail-order catalog from Barnes and Noble for c. $4.99. Memories ...

For what it's worth, it sounded like she said "sump hole".

In the book, she says "sin hole".

according to the closed captioning she says both sump hole and sin hole...

but we all know she MEANT sh*thole, lol
