Neither Davis or Oberon give a satisfying performance as Sand.

The Davis character seems too preoccupied with her cross dressing and sex ... hey, the woman was a great writer.
Oberon, by contrast, was so bitchy and seemed to drop the man outfits after the first scene.

Was James Mason first offered the role of Chopin, but turned it down? I thought I read that somewhere.
