I Love Jack Carson !!!

I never saw this movie before, but I see Jack Carson had quite a career in the 40s. I think he was so handsome and talented. He was great in Mildred Pierce and so many other movies. Love him !!!! He looked good with Rosalind Russell too !!!!

I liked him too. He was a likeable sort. He was in an episode of Twlight Zone too, were he was a dishonest used car salesman that was made to tell the truth because of a "haunted" car brought to him on his car lot.

Don't forget Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, his tour de force.

Carson could be smarmy (MILDRED PIERCE) as well as likeable - don't overlook his Matt Libby in the 1954 A STAR IS BORN.

Carson and Russell were a delight together, and almost made up for the appallingly slow pace of the film's second half - I thought it would never end!

It was this movie - Roughly Speaking that made me a fan of Jack Carson. As a rule he played either a buffoon or a jerk, but I believe he pretty much played himself in Roughly Speaking and I have been his devotee.

I adore him in The Groom Wore Spurs with Ginger Rogers...likeable rogue, and really really very funny. Quite a versatile guy to be able to do melodrama and comedy with equal aplomb. He's gorgeous in it too.

I think I saw part of this film. When he met Rosalind Russell's character, did they have a conversation about "this", the gray patches in her hair? Later, did they run a greenhouse business?

Yes Noir, you've got the right movie.

Carson was very good in this film.

I like the portrayal of a couple who use mutual ambition, energy and lots and lots of humor to get through a tough life. But, when things are at their worst, instead of using all of that energy to fight and blame, they get quiet and gentle with one another.

When he comes down from all of that energy, sad and sincere, in the bar next to the pool hall, it is breathtaking -- he rarely got a chance to show that he could be still and quiet and subtle.

The way that she comes in and lets him know that he's been found out is lovely, too.

I agree across the board with your comments, practicepiano! He gave a truly fine performance.

I thought that she was tremdous, too.

I love him too!

If you like him playing others,
see him playing himself in,

Anything he is in, is better for it!
Love "Princess O'Rouke", "Mildred Pierce", and on and on...

Watching "Roughly Speaking" as I type.
Thank Goodness for TCM!

One of my favorites of his movie performances is Arsenic and Old Lace especially the scene where he insists on telling Cary Grant's character the entire plot of his play while Grant is tied up. It was hilarious and indeed anything he is in is better for him.

Did you ever get to see this movie? It will be on TCM early this evening, about four hours from now.

I agree wholeheartedly with you about Jack Carson. I've seen almost four dozen of his movies, now, thanks to TCM. Carson's role in Roughly Speaking is one of my favorites.

Mag, Darling, you're being a bore.
