Aside from the compelling story...


I saw this film last night for the first time. Thanks TCM. I'd not previously heard of it. Quite enjoyed it. It seems to me that it shared an important message, not unlike the more widely remembered Best Years of Our Lives from the following year, and it is certainly one that can be applied to modern situations as well.
That is the warning to both returning veterans and their families: Do not expect things to pick up where they left off before your separations. People will have changed and if you are not open and receptive of those changes, expect even more problems than you will face even if you understand this.
