503rd Parachute Infantry

This was a real unit, but it never got near Burma. Its first combat jump was at Nadzab, New Guinea. The movie may have been loosely based on that operation, but there are, of course, fictional aspects to the movie. Some of the interspersed newsreel footage of the combat jump looks like it may have actually been taken from film of the Nadzab jump.
