Will they ever release this on DVD?

Will they ever release this on DVD? It's a pretty funny movie, and I think it has one of the most powerful "hooks" ever. Anyone who has ever seen it will sooner or later find themselves humming the little jingle: "Honors fliziz, income beeziz, onchess nobbiz, innob keeziz".

Man, I hope so! I watched this movie so many times when I was a kid. I'm dying to see it again.

reply

Hey, they're getting closer. "Double Indemnity" has just been released. Can Murder, He Says" be far behind?

reply

Not so soon, considering that Sigma Six Pinch Penny GE owns Universal, which in turn owns most of Paramount's film library. Billy Wilder's Ace in the Hole was on TCM in January 2007, and that picture is another Paramount movie missing in action for about 14 years, when it last was on AMC. Chances are, Murder, He Says will be on TCM before it makes it to DVD. The tape I made of Murder, He Says on June 9, 1993 from AMC was one of the last times this movie was broadcast (EP tape quality does not hold up well). August 30 is Fred MacMurray's birthday, so if TCM now has the broadcast rights, it could be part of a birthday salute to MacMurray, part of another Summer Under The Stars schedule, with a different star highlighted each day of the month.

I've seen it on Veria tv a couple times over the years

Did MacMurray and Porter Hall ever work together again? Hall is mentioned as the only identifiable character actor in Double Indemnity on the commentary, but they seem to overlook Ed Cobb as the conductor. Cobb had huge list of credits, mostly in westerns and serials and occasionally in bigger movies. Orson Welles features him prominently in the foreground during one scene in Citizen Kane. It took many viewings to spot him.

I saw this once when I was a kid (probably the 1993 showing), and it has stuck in my head ever since. That's got to say something about a film if a single viewing can stay with you that long. I remember laughing a lot and can still remember that stupid song. LOL I'd sooooooooooo love to see it again!

I finally got to see this movie the other day on Veria(sp?). Watching this movie when I was about four is one of my earliest memories. Seeing Fred MacMurray baled up in hay was hysterical to me. I have been watching for it to come on for years. I missed the first few minutes, but was relieved to see that there was a rebroadcast late that same evening. I managed to get it on my DVR.

I was lucky enough to buy the VHS when it was released. I also purchased a bootleg on ebay. I would still love to have a crystal clear DVD release.

It's out on DVD now!

boxofficegreats.com doesn't seem to be there anymore. Googling seems to indicate that there may have been something shady about it. Maybe bootlegs from VHS tapes or something. Just repeating rumors, you understand, but I recommend you do some research into ANY company that claims they can provide DVDs that can't be found on any of the mainstream sites like Amazon or Movies Unlimited.

There may be some self-selection at Amazon -- movies they just don't care to have associated with their name (porn or semi-porn), but it's pretty hard to see why anyone would be offended by "Murder, He Says".

Same here! I saw this when I was 12 or 13, probably taped off of AMC. Our family watched a lot of old black and white movies, but I still remember this one vividly.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to see last night's broadcast on TCM. I only have basic cable.

Universal, via TCM's Vault line, will "officially" release this movie on DVD as part of the double feature "Murder He Says / Feudin', Fussin' and A-Fighting" on January 31st, 2010. This set is exclusive to TCM, and can currently only be ordered at tcm.com.

Thanks for the update!

TCM finally did but there are bootlegs available, still as funny as ever!

TMC released it as a double feature DVD. "Feudin' Fussin' & A Fightin'" is included with the "Murder He Says" DVD. It's a great upgrade from the original.

It's been released. you can buy it at Amazon.
