I am glad you watched. I had to make a great effort to watch since I was not feeling well and I felt extremely tired but I also recorded it -- to VHS since I have not put my new DVD recorder to work yet. I guess I would have enjoyed the film more if I had been in good health and not having to make an effort to stake awake. Anyway, I recently saw (Jan 16) ¨My Cousin Rachel,¨ 1952, with Olivia de Havilland and Richard Burton, another great classic also not released on DVD, and I preferred it to Love Letters.

Thanks for the classic film site. I´ll check it out.

PS: Since you are a classic film lover, The Lion in Winter is playing on AMC tomorrow at 9.30AM EST, if you don´t mind the commercials. I have never seen the film so I am happy enough to see it even if with commercials.
You must be following the 31 days of Oscar in TCM so you might know that Lawrence of Arabia will show next Saturday at 4 PM EST, another classic I am looking forward to seeing for the first time.

Thanks for the response. I appreciate the future listings :) I purchased Lawrence of Arabia on DVD for $9.99 at a local grocery store.

I will definitely check out 'My Cousin Rachel' ...I love de Havilland and I've liked Richard Burton in some stuff...especially 'Cleopatra' 1963, with Elizabeth Taylor and Burton.

Interesting to hear that you preffered 'My Cousin Rachel' to Love Letters. I recently watched 'Love Letters' and wasn't overly impressed. Yes, a good movie, but not matching great romance films like 'The Heiress' 1949, with deHavilland and Clift, or 'Portrait of Jennie' 1948, starring Jennifer Jones and Joseph Cotten, among many other greats.

Hope you feel better.

We seem to have the same taste in classics.
You should be watching ¨Ladies in Retirement¨ with Ida Lupino showing on TCM right now. Never saw it but it seems to be our type of classic. I am recording it since I don´t have time to sit to watch now. It might repeat on TCM, though. Will write some more another time. Need to eat now and soothe my bronchitis (no, I am not doing that much better).

You won't believe this, but I also recorded 'Ladies in Retirement' last night. LOL I've been an Ida Lupino fan since I watched 'Escape Me Never' 1947, a couple of years ago. I love her in 'On Dangerous Ground' 1952, and 'High Sierra' 1941.

Good to hear from you

Hi again bosox_n03 (curious id name you have, what does bosox mean?),

My bronchitis (mild) is gone since early last week after finishing taking an antibiotic, which I was reluctant to take at first.
I haven´t seen ¨Ladies in Retirement¨ yet, which you and I both recorded. Have you? Iask you because we seem to have the same taste.
I. like you, was also disappointed about ¨Love Letters¨ Such a big deal made from movie fans about it and also because it is also not possible to get in DVD that my expectations were really high. However, I hold, like you, The Portrait of Jenny, as a much better romance movie and ¨My Cousin Rachel¨ all the way at the top -- Richard Burton steals the show (was nominated) and Olivia de Havilland is just perfect. ¨The Heiress¨ is one of my favorite movies. Olivia de Havilland gives a superb performance, the best I´ve seen of her, and so does Ralph Richardson, Montgomery Clift´s is very good too.
I am going to check out the suspense film showing on TCM at 12.15 am tonight: Psyche 59 (1964). I like Patricia O´Neal ever since I saw her acting against Gary Cooper in ¨The Fountainhead.¨
If you like ¨Cleopatra¨ 1963 movie, see my post about an ancient coin showing that Cleopatra was no beauty.

A historian made a comment about my post in the message boards of the 1934 version of Cleopatra, check that too. Another historian sent me a message about it in another movie´s message boards. I will copy it to this movie´s thread with more time.
Bye now.

Psyche 59´s plot: After being blinded in a mysterious fall, a woman fears her husband is involved with her younger sister.
Cast: Curt Jurgens, Patricia Neal, Samantha Eggar. Dir: Alexander Singer. BW-94 mins, TV-PG
