how can you lock someone in a room?

You're in. You can't be locked inside. Just open the door and go. By the way, that is what happens unless I missed something. It reminds me of a joke or riddle or something I heard years ago. You are in a car and all the windows are up and the doors are locked. There is a brick on the seat beside you. How do you get out? The answer: Open the door and step out. You are INSIDE the car!!

Locks back then aren't the same as they are today. Back then, a keyhole went all the way through to the other side of the door and could be locked from either side. You've never seen an old movie with someone being a keyhole peeper and spying on someone?

It was like a jail where, I believe, prisoners can not open the cell doors.

Congratulations on writing the dumbest post on imdb.

So if you have a guest in your house and you leave and lock the door behind you, they are stuck in your house at your mercy, forever, until you return? I don't think so. Turn the lock, open the door, and leave.
And you say I'm dumb but you're so stupid you don't know how to turn a lock.

If you were my guest I would definitely leave you locked in and do the world a favour, you complete and utter moron.

reply

You don't get it: there is no lock to turn. There is only an empty keyhole. You are locked IN.

I've lived in houses that had these old locks.

Every room had a spare key somewhere near the door.

(as kids; we would lock friends in the bathroom or a bedroom ... the 'safe key' was usually on a nail next to the door, but too high for them to reach)

It's just common sense that in the movie, his friend took 'that' key.
