Kind of dull

I'll admit that the atmosphere/setting of this film was very chilling, and the premise of the movie is cool, but overall, I found it somewhat dull. Boris Karloff is great though, but I thought some of the supporting cast was weak. The movie does pick up in the ending 15 minutes, but the middle felt too slow and dare I say too "dramatic". Sometimes I felt like I was watching a melo-drama instead of a horror flick. Overall, I have to give it a 5/10.

I don't feel it is dull but I agree it is more drama then a horror film. As the deaths happen off screen there is no real sense of danger. Even the conflicts are muted as if the actors were under the same - "don't touch, or be too close together as there is a plague...".

The orders and the enforcement of those orders were kind of toned down. Besides words not many tried to interact until near the end.

My first viewing in nearly 30 years - i liked it back then but now i agree with OP -in fact i would go as far as to say that at times Isle of the Dead is astonishingly bad
