Remake?

In browsing the IMDb, I've come across a listing for a movie (with a keyword "remake") coming out in 2009 called "Isle of the Dead." The information is only available on IMDbPro, so I can't look into it - is it possible that my favorite Val Lewton movie is getting the remake treatment? I'm long past the point of getting pissed off about remakes, but this is certainly surprising. Anybody know anything about this?

What's the Spanish for drunken bum?

Yes, I can honestly say I'm not familiar with any islands in Afghanistan.

The basic characters and concepts of this story were interesting, and I could definitely see it being reworked into a superior film.

I think IF there is a re-make, that it will be better serviced to place the story off the coast of Africa or Aegean Sea area. Why? One there are so many places around Africa that could be used in a modern version of re-telling this story and there are many civil wars/conflicts there anyway. It could be about a UN medical relief team stranded, which would present a mix of cultural and racial interaction.

The Greek/Turks have been battling over islands and property for awhile now, so that is another fair location to re-visit.

If this is a Hollywood and seeing how their 'creators' like to bring a sense of current events into play by using Afghanistan which as most of us known is a land-lock country these days. In the past it was part of the Persian Empire which then would have had coastlines. Now there are a few "lakes" but as others have mentioned I'm not aware of any 'islands'.

Now Hollywood director could go the meta method and used on of the many (about 34) provinces so one of those could become a "island" but it sort of lacks the imagination as its not 100% isolated in the modern world without creating a very strict relationship in story-telling like during a major storm or other temporal incident.

The Lewton remakes were announced back in 2007. The first three slated were to be Bedlam, I Walked with a Zombie, and The Body Snatcher. There seems to have been very little buzz about any of these projects over the past three years. In fact, the IMDB pages for the Bedlam and I Walked with a Zombie remakes have disappeared. The Body Snatcher remake is still listed, though it shows a 2010 release date (which clearly isn't happening).

I'm hoping the Lewton remakes get shelved altogether. They were optioned to Twisted Pictures, which is known almost excursively by their Saw series. I'd be open to remakes of the Lewton movies, but I have zilch confidence in this particular team.

Funny how people call this film dull and boring. I saw SAW in a theatre and found it to be completely dull and boring. Different strokes.
