I know where i'm going

Following your discussion of P&P films, how about this criticism of Canterbury Tale: Why does the organist get such a crap miracle?
Also, when the American soldier is playing with the children, he hears church bells ringing and says he has a date for church. I thought that this was only meant to happen when the invasion came

No, I think that's fair.

The way music echos in a cathedral, the way simple hymns uplift the spirit; there's a purity and grace that can never be found in a cinema organ. Not that's there anything wrong with cinema, but there's so much right with cathedral organ music.

But shouldn't we be discusssing this on another board? I'm waiting for someone to tell me what they think of IKWIG! There's another miracle in that film.

I find I know where I'm going wonderful. For me, its one of those movies that you can watch anytime no matter what kind of mood you're in. I never used to like Wendy Hiller's character but she grew on me as I got older. Roger Livesey is an aquired taste too, I love his voice.

As for other P&P films, I can take or leave A Cantebury Tale, its cute and pleasing. I liked "Blimp" though its a bit long. I think the 49th Parallel and Black Narcissus lack something (possibly charm, subtlety and good acting). Red Shoes is just brilliant.

He got a crappy miracle in a canterbury tale because he interferes with children.

Mr Roy,

That was uncalled for. If you meant to be anything other than abusive, please explain your point further.

Dear BanaBon,

You find child sexual abuse funny. Also, I imagine, fart jokes, knob gags and scatalogical humour in general.

I don't think this is your kind of film.

if given the right timing then yes i do and such a random comment placed into the middle of the fairly serious conversation was that

I completely agree with you. I am watching the dvd. I saw the movie about 20 years ago, and I think, next to Pygmalion, this is Wendy Hiller's finest performance. It's as lovely and enchanting a film as Under the Tuscan Sun, Local Hero or Antonia and Jane, and in the collection of works by P & P, it's one of their best. I think A Matter of Life and Death is the greatest use of technicolor ever put on film, and the acting in I Know Where I'm Going is amazing.

To be honest, I've never been able to sit through either Canterbury Tale or The Red Shoes, but I think this is an admirable movie, and it's a shame that it's not recognized as a minor classic.
