i know its only a movie, but... (minor spoiler)

(minor spoiler) ... should soldiers really be talking over the wireless during wartime in 1944/1945 ?
good photography in the storm scene, considering when it was filmed. Photography through-out is quite good; unfortunately, the woman's voice at the very end is a little garbled and hard to hear (as she reads the curse) after all these years... I had to crank it WAY up to hear it. Fun film.

Looks like Powell & Pressburger worked together on about 25 projects - Has anyone seen "Arena - A Pretty British Affair" where they get interviewed ?

That wireless was the only way to communicate between the islands. They only had a short range and they weren't discussing anything very military - just if Torquil was in the Army or the Navy

if you had to crank the sound way up then there may be something wrong with your DVD. It's in a fairly strong Scottish accent but it's very clearly enunciated and at a reasonable volume

Yes, it was about 25 projects, depending on how you count them. And about 5 of them had that most unusual credit "Written, Produced and Directed by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger". They really did collaborate on all the work. And it wasn't just Powell and Pressburger themselves, it was the whole company of "The Archers". All those people, cast & crew, who only signed up for each film - there was never really much of a "studio system" in the UK. They were all very skilled in what they did but those people were queueing up to work with The Archers.

I've seen "A Pretty British Affair". It's very good and is one of the few interviews where Emeric says quite a lot. He usually used to deliberately fade himself into backgound and let Micky be the front man.

regarding the reading of the curse at the end: it wasnt a dvd; it was the broadcast on TCM. i had to crank up the volume to hear the woman's voice, and when she was done reading it, then the sound was EXTRA loud.. i merely mention it as a warning to those watching in the future.../kf

That's odd. An American friend recorded it for me from the TCM broadcast and I didn't notice any problem with the sound. Ah, but that was when they broadcast IKWIG (and a load of other Powell films) back in January 2008. They were introduced by Thelma Schoonmaker-Powell.

Maybe they didn't take as much care for this more recent broadcast because Thelma wasn't there
