Impressive shot

There's a great shot in the scene where Cregar finally performs his piece.

First of all, he's doing a VERY good job at finger-synching, and Alan Napier is one of the few actors who conducts an orchestra convincingly.

But watch that scene again! Director John Brahm does an incredibly long single shot that begins with the piano, sweeps through the entire audience, and ends back at the musical performance again. All this had to be coordinated to the playback of Herrmann's music. Hats off to the director and all involved!

reply

Yep. If I'm not mistaken, it starts on Napier's face and then ends up traveling over his shoulder back to the piano. Great shot!

Smooth and amazingly blended like a hydrocephalic in the act of milking his cranial harp.

Nothing is more beautiful than nothing.

Exactly!
