Was Alan Napier EVER young?

Of course I remember him as Alfred in Batman... but even at 42 years old in this film he looked to be about 70.

Terrific actor. Its fun watching TCM and seeing all the actors I grew up watching in the 60s back in their Heyday.

Barton McClane as the tough Noir guy always cracks me up since I remember him as General Peterson from I Dream of Jeannie

I'm not much on remakes but I think this film would be a great candidate if they kept it a period piece, used all English actors and kept Bernard Herrmans remarkable score.

I agree. I saw Alan Napier in a movie from 1939 and he looked old then. I also agree about TCM. It's great!

You probably mean "We Are Not Alone"...I watched it the day before and he looked as though he was around 50...I think it's the only film you can see him younger than any other (his earlier ones are too rare to find)

Isle of the Dead. He has brown hair and looks youngish (like 40?). He's not in it much but it's a good film anyway I would recommend it if you like this

While Napier is the epitome of "never looked young", two other actors that fill the bill here are Charles Lane and Adolphe Menjou.

... and Wilfred Hyde White of course.
