Morgan Freeman....

Morgan Freeman just referenced this film on The Tonight Show... I couldn't believe it, mainly because it's so obscure.

Not so obscure for those of us over 45. The book the film was based on was a staple title in the "Arrow Book Club" and "Scholastic Book Club" and other companies that sold books through schools to kids in the '60s and '70s, alongside those Hardy Boy and Encyclopedia Brown books and many others in the monthly catalogs.

That is where many of us first heard of many WW2 books like "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo" and Korean War books like "The Bridges at Toko-Ri" that had been made into films, which we then usually watched on TV, instead of reading the books.

"God Is My Co-Pilot" was one my wife and I had always heard of, but never watched. I finally watched the movie on TCM, and I will now buy and read the book, even though I'm sure there is an old dusty copy in the basement at my parents' house that I bought in the '60s and never read.
