I've never seen this movie before and I'm watching it now on TCM.
Does anyone know the name of the actor that is his friend in the beginning, his room-mate that told him he received a telegram?
He looks so familiar but I can't place him.

That is Michael St. Angel. He appeared in numerous RKO films in the 1940s.
