Pure Racist Garbage

Its a pretty one sided over the top racist movie. I realize it was during WW2 but making the Japanese look inhuman and totally unrealistic is pretty tough to watch today.

not too many WW II movies made the Japanese appears kind or likable. after five years of war and millions killed at their hands worldwide you can understand their pov. today we make them appear noble and caught up in a larger social effort. neither is correct. this film is representative of the times. And remember, racism is not just a white thing. Read anything about Japanese culture and it will illustrate that. We (white folk) tend to gloss over racism by other cultures and peoples. But it is just as prevalent if not more so.

Ask any survivor of the Bataan March how they were treated by the Japanese. If you collapsed during the march, you were shot and pushed to side of the road. Your post is garbage.

My post is garbage? How about the hundreds of thousands killed by the atomic bomb in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Innocent civilians.
War is ugly on all sides.

The Japanese were (and remain) one of the most racist cultures themselves. Yes, even today. ALL other peoples are considered "barbarians" to most Japanese - and the Japanese really look down on intermarriage with other peoples - and especially Koreans. Really ironic since modern genetics show Koreans and Japanese are basically one and the same, genetically.

Look up "Rape of Nanking" and the 300,000 innocent Chinese civilians raped en masse and murdered there in 1937. Your "war is hell" excuse doesn't actually cut it.

And BTW - those Atom bombs saved a minimum 1 million Allied casualties and an estimated 4 to 5 million MORE Japanese casualties in an invasion of the Home Islands using only conventional weapons had been necessary. (Based on actual casualty figures on Iwo Jima and Okinawa.) The Japanese were insane then and HAD to be unconditionally defeated.

The Nanking Massacre, also known as the Rape of Nanking, was an episode of mass murder and mass rape committed by Japanese troops against the residents of Nanking (current official spelling: Nanjing) during the Second Sino-Japanese War. The massacre occurred during a six-week period starting from December 13, 1937, the day that the Japanese captured Nanking, which was then the Chinese capital (see Republic of China). During this period, between 40,000 to over 300,000 (estimates vary) Chinese civilians and disarmed combatants were murdered by soldiers of the Imperial Japanese Army.[7][8] Widespread rape and looting also occurred.[9][10] Several of the key perpetrators of the atrocities, at the time labelled as war crimes, were later tried and found guilty at the International Military Tribunal of the Far East and the Nanjing War Crimes Tribunal, and were executed. Another key perpetrator, Prince Asaka, a member of the Imperial Family, escaped prosecution by having earlier been granted immunity by the Allies.

Since most Japanese military records on the killings were deliberately kept secret or destroyed shortly after the surrender of Japan in 1945, historians have not been able to accurately estimate the death toll of the massacre. The International Military Tribunal of the Far East estimated in 1948 that over 200,000 Chinese were killed in the incident.[11] China's official estimate is more than 300,000 dead based on the evaluation of the Nanjing War Crimes Tribunal in 1947. The death toll has been actively contested among scholars since the 1980s, with typical estimates ranging from 40,000 to over 300,000.
