I don't get it

WTF happened to the nightclub owner and his daughter? I must've watched a shortened version or something because that was not explained.

I have the same damn question as I just watched it. Either it was just padding to fill up the hour or maybe they cut a scene out of the final print.

I just watched the movie on a DVD and then immediately came here hoping to find the answer. If an explanation was cut from the versions we saw, it is probably that the owner has some fear (that had nothing to do with Splitface) that caused to go into hiding. The script writer probably threw the nightclub owner in there as a false suspect.

Despite this flaw in what we saw, I still enjoyed the movie...just some light entertainment that kept moving.

*****POSSIBLE SPOILERS*****The nightclub owner was just a red herring. He went into hiding after paying off the spiritualist's blackmail. I believe, but am by no means sure, Splitface just went into his house to get away from the cops, and the spiritualist thought he was one of the intended victims.

In anycase the main point was to give Howard Hughes hottie Jane Greer, who played the nightclub proprietor's daughter, a chance for her first movie role. Smoking, she was. Yet one-time opera singer and someday ghost-portrayer, Ann Jeffreys was hardly a slouch. What a couple of high-octane babes for a little 4-cylinder programmer!
