Which remake ?? The terrible 1992 movie with Penn, etc is not a remake, but a completely different picture and pretty poor, too (although Penn is great, Oliver Stone is not a great director, IMHO)

I wondered about that. I couldn't believe they would've remade the original because it isn't that well known.

Where am I from, you ask? "Pomona, Glendale, ((Fullerton, La Habra, Anaheim)), whatever."

I don't know what the Penn film is but the 1992 Detour is reputedly a faithful remake using the original script (including scenes that were cut because of budget problems) and starring Tom Neal, Jr, the son of the original's Tom Neal.

Seems to be very hard to find, though.

Oh, I see, it is this one:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0104093/
So there is indeed a remake existing, but I guess - as is common with remakes - it´s most likely not worth the effort getting it ...?

The one I meant (with a partly compareable storyline) is this one:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120399/
(this is definitly NOT worth the time to watch it ... although I very much like Penn, he is one of the BEST US-actors today !!).

Thanx a lot for this info ! So there is no need to actually hunt down the re-make (which is something like "the law of remakes" anyway, they are usually not up to the original). Thanx!
