Will this film ever be released on Blue-Ray?

This film just begs to "cleaned" and released on Blue-Ray.

Has anyone heard anything about this?

The Westlake 2007 DVD version must be from a non-restored version as there are plenty of visual distortions, missing frames, and sound distortions. Yes, a restored clean version is really needed for this very good film.

Plus the initial photography itself is really quirky in some scenes, as if the cameraman was slightly tipsy at the time.

But, maybe that was intentional for the film noir atmosphere.

Great news - Film Chest has finished a digital restoration of Detour and it will be released July 22nd. Film Chest has restored several other public domain films with fantastic results. They did another Ulmer film, The Strange Woman, and it was wonderful. Hollow Triumph was another one. It is slated for DVD release only, but if it is an excellent restore job, the hopefully we will see a blu-ray in the near future.

Update: I recently received the Film Chest version, and it's horrible. Image Ent. still has the best available version on the home market. The Film Chest version is a total let-down. How they can release pretty nice, sharp transfers such as Hollow Triumph and The Bigamist then put out a washed out blurry transfer is beyond me. Just when I was starting to believe in them, they put out this trash. Sorry I recommend this crap to anyone. Stick to the Image dvd.
