Good Alternative Ending--Spoilers--Tell me your thoughts

As I said in my critique on the earlier message, I wish this movie was not so short and actually continued on. I am not the only one suggesting the idea that the film continued with them trying to do the Florida scam.

How about this--

The pair actually go and do the Florida scam. The old man has largely gone blind, and they are able to fool him, even though a close caretaker is suspicious as she knew the kid as a child and things don't add up. But they get the money.

Along the way, Vera actually does fall for Al, and her evilness subsides but retains dark overtones. Now she does not want to let him go not for control, but because she loves him. Al, while feeling sorry for her, realizes he has the money now to get to LA and completely take care of and marry Sue. When he tries to leave, Vera goes crazy, and scratches his arm just like she did to Haskell. Al pushes her away, but she goes off a railing/down stairs/in front of car, whatever, and is killed in front of witnesses.

Al is executed for murdering Vera.

What does everyone think about that?

Not bad. But what you're describing is a 4th act, not just the ending.

Here's an alternate ENDING...
A car rolls up to Al as he wanders forlornly in the gloom. Inside is Sue, not cops. She's found him. She says "get in, darling," but he ignores her and keeps walking. She tries again, opening the door for him this time, but he walks on as if he doesn't even know she's there. A long pause, then the car door eases shut and the car turns around in the road and slowly disappears in the opposite direction. Tom plods on woodenly, a dead man walking, doomed to wander alone until his own final end.

Now that's a Film Noir ending right there.

Yes. I like that one.

I"m not sure it adds any more than we had with the original "real" ending, w/o the cops inviting him into their car.
