Is it good & was it the inspiration for the 70's movie

No, "Tales from the Crypt" was based on the long-running eponymous comic book.
I admit to being far more fond of this film. Yet, the comic itself, and others of the genre, were immense fun.

Tales From the Crypt obviously came from the comic book. But the structure of the wrap arounds are similar to this movie.
