Bogart and phones

I love pretty much everything I have seen Bogey in, but has anyone ever noticed his unconvincing acting when talking on the phone? Perhaps it's just part of his being Bogey, but he never seems to leave enough space between lines to allow whoever he is talking with to have given a reasonable response to whatever it was he asked them. This isn't nitpicking, just something I have noticed him do in several films, including this one.

Also, his brusque manner in ending phone conversations cracks me up. Maybe he just wasn't a big fan of the phone :)

Yes, I noticed that, too!
Maybe he just never liked talking on the phone?

reply

Another reason to like him. Phones are a pain.

Oh Lord, you gave them eyes but they cannot see...

reply

I agree, they are a pain!

reply

Never noticed it but I guess I will from now on.

What I notice and find unusual is that Bogart seems to use a rotary telephone in every single film he stars in. Good thing smart phones weren't around or he would be on social media during the entire film.

I thought rotary phones were all they had back in1945.
