About Gray..

I just saw this movie for the first time, and I loved it! What a great horror movie from the 40's. But I thought that Gray was a homosexual and just wanted to know if anyone else thinks this? I just got the message like loud and clear about him. Of course it's just my opinion :p

The term "toddy" is British slang for an attractive woman. So, there is a suggestion of it.

The notion there are gay characters in "The Body Snatcher" and its supporting evidence in "Toddy" as a female aphorism for the Doctor is truly preposterous, or there's been snoozing during the film, or Generation-X learned nothing from "The X-Files" or peeps just have one-track-minds, perhaps ...

... "Toddy" exhibits the real passion for Meg Camden, played by the lovely and talented French actress Edith Atwater, as they close scene one with a hot French kiss in the Tod-Man's study.

If you're playing at home, that one scores as a line-drive hit to center for Mother Nature.

It never occurred to me, which surprises me, since I'm usually quite astute about these things.

I've not read the Robert Louis Stevenson story on which it was based, but it wouldn't surprise me if the homosexual element was found in it. I definitely got gay vibes from reading The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

You're nuts. And, no, there is no hint of such in the orginal Stevenson story.

<yawn> another gay poster trying to convince folk that characters in a film are in fact gay, despite a total lack of evidence, in a vain attempt to justify their own sexuality.

thank you, right? what an absurd post...

Everybody's gay; they just don't realize it yet.

There is nothing in the movie to even hint that Gray is homosexual.

Frankly, I'm tired of gays reading homosexuality into just about every movie ever made by glomming onto the slimmest incident as "a suggestion that he is gay."

To God There Is No Zero. I Still Exist.

The chilling thing about Gray is that he is asexual. Beautiful women or lust or passion of any kind mean nothing to him. He is a total sociopath. On the surface he comes across as a likeable, roguish rough diamond but inwardly he is totally empty and cold.

Where do you stand on heterosexuals doing it, which is observed at least as frequently?

Or, for that matter, on overstatement and unfounded assumptions?

Poe! You are...avenged!

reply

Henry Daniell's name in the movie was Todd McFarlane so hence, the name Gray called him was Toddy. Even his wife in the movie called him that.

I just saw this for the first time as well, but unlike you, I did not get that message at all. What exactly did you see that sent the message 'loud and clear?'
