One Of The Biggest Box Office Hits Ever

One thing that is almost never mentioned about this movie is that, adjusted for inflation, it is still one of the biggest U.S. box office hits of all time.

As of this writing, it sits at #49 on that list:

Imagine how many parents of the baby boomer generation saw this movie and then went home to...uh, you know. ;)

This is true. When adjusted for inflation, it ranks ABOVE all 3 Lord of the Rings films, as well as several Star Wars and Harry Potter films (actually, I don't think there are any HP films above it in the list). Pretty amazing!

Or imagine how many times Bing/Father O'Malley left the set for the day only to spend the evening with his latest extramarital dalliance or with the kids he screamed at and belted.

Yes, and also a striking exemplification of the fact that despite the fact that Hollyood caters to a pluralist audience, the religious films that have done the best at the box office, have been those which have a Roman Catholic theme.

What was the old definition of the movie industry?

"Hollywood is owned by Jews, to push Catholic theology, on Protestant America".

When Sr Benedict asks Luther to read his essay, Fr O'Malley says, "How did he get in here?" Sr Benedict's reply, "We never knew".

You get my drift.
