American Imperialism over Japanese Imperialism

This film opens the door to a great discussion. What is the Filipino perspective of WW2?

I have always thought things worked out pretty well for the Filipinos. Ya they had their very dark hours of Japanese occupation (1942 to 1944) but America came back and drove the Japs away and in the end the Philippines gained their independence ... as they had been promised by the US before the war started.

But lets not fool ourselves ... America did not liberate the Philippines because of our dedication to the Filipino people ... she did it to protect our economic interests in the Philippines and to squelch Imperial Japan (who very much intended to take the Hawaiian Islands and Australia).

In many ways the Filipinos were caught between two superpowers ... and this in tern ... as pointed out by this film ... cost millions of Filipinos their lives.
Bonifacio said in this film we should just stop fighting the Japs for the cost was too high. I do not think ... based on events in China ... that that would have worked out very well ... but who knows.

I wish we had some Filipino films to get their perspective on this. I cannot help but wonder what Filipino version of this movie would look like?

... when you look at the Philippines today it worked out pretty well for them. Certainly much better than if Japan had held on.
