Tom Calls / Cat Calls

I love the part when Gene Kelly goes walking across the lot, and a bunch of girls whistle and call out to him, as they watch his very finely made bottom go walking past them in those little, white, sailor pants.

I have never really understood the fascination with bottoms, but I must say, if I had been among those girls, I think I would have been compelled to do the very same. He did have a nice one.

Back about 12 years ago our local downtown revival theater played Singing in the Rain and it was the first time I'd ever seen Gene Kelly on the big screen and he danced in one song I can't remember (but was also wearing white pants ...he seems to dance in white pants a lot) but my first thought was "How could I not have realized what an amazing behind Gene Kelly had" ...oh my word...I'd been wolf whistling, too. yes, the man was put together very well, and I always wondered where that scar on his cheek came from.

"I jumped off a roof for you"

reply

I've never really been a 'bottom' girl myself..I just can't see the appeal. But Gene Kelly was a professional dancer so..go figure his bottom was gorg!!

reply

He got the scar when he was only 2 or 3, he fell off a bike :(

I wish I could remember the name of the MGM actress who did an interview several years ago and said that Gene was so incredibly sexy. Apparently, she wasn't the only MGM actress who thought so! LOL

I am so happy that I am not the only one who has noticed what a wonderful bottom that Gene Kelly had...Oh my gosh, it is just perfect...The rest of him and his boyish charm was wonderful too...

Why are we talking about butts?

"Hey,Cos,do something!Call me a Cab!"
"Okay,you're a cab."

reply

They were blue pants.

I love that, too! I loved that it could acknowledge that women could appreciate men the way they could a girl walking by.

How about that white bodysuit in "An American in Paris" during the title ballet/dream sequence? Wow!

He most definitely has a fine tushie!

I don't remember which MGM actress talked about how sexy Gene was, but it was in "That's Entertainment" because I can remember seeing it in the theater. They showed a scene of him climbing on some rafters and it was said that he did all his own stunts, etc. I'll have to dig out the movie because now I'm trying to remember who it was....

I finally got to see that movie sometime last year. It's "Living in a Big Way". Here's the trailer showing that stunt:

EDIT: Unfortunately, I don't recall the actress who was in that segment of the documentary. Shame on me because I saw it in the theater twice then many times since then. My fibrofoggy brain won't give me that information.

After watching clips of the movie all my life, I finally saw the entire film yesterday. It was a cute and entertaining flick. The female whistling kind of shocked me considering the era of the film, I bet Gene was flattered. What guy wouldn't be?
