Why is this film not well known? It is brilliant.

I loved it too! It's a shame Joan is only known for "Rebecca" and "Suspicion" because she made some marvelous movies after those films.

Agreed. From '42 through '48 she did make some very entertaining films, and some of her performances are quite good...This Above All, Affairs, The Constant Nymph are a few that stand out.
