who doubled lou?

When Mike Mazurki throws Lou off the balcony it's obviously not Costello, but the credits don't list a stunt double. My guess is Black Jack Shea who was Costello's double and could pass for Costello from a distance or the right camera angles. Shea was a longtime bit player at Republic and reportedly was Capote's lover.

U mean the stunt guy wasn't the one who doubled for Peter Lorre in the Mr. Moto flix? Can't remember his name, but he doubled for many of the smaller guys back in them days.

The sense itself was I.

You've got me there although I still think Black Jack Shea doubled Lou. Shea was another of those ubiquitous character actors at Republic. I would consider him somewhat higher up the ladder than Tex Cooper who always seemed to be in the background.

I watched Thunder over The Plains today for the first time in years. Passable Scott. I read somewhere he taught Gary Cooper a Virginia accent for The Virginian. Which reminds me of a story they told about Robert Easton and Robert Duvall when Easton died. Duvall went to him and asked him to teach Duvall a Virginia accent. "Which one?" Easton said. "There are at least fourteen."

One of the funniest scenes I can remember involving Easton is in The Loved One where somebody has the brilliant idea of turning Easton into another James Bond...if he can ever learn a British accent.

Xmas should be interesting this year with a new Bond film, The Hobbitt Part I, Alex Cross with Tyler Perry and One Shot with Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher and Duvall. I would describe Reacher, an ex MP as a Ronin. He wanders the country and always finds much trouble that only he can handle. The books are very detailed but not boring. But Reacher is over 6'

I very very very rarely go to the movies because of the extreme volume and the fact I wear hearing aids. We went to see The Vow for Valentine's Day. That was not too bad, but the trailers were unbearably loud.

Caught John Dehner on Gunsmoke this evening but somehow I missed Allan Lane. Sunday night was my favorite night when I was growing up--Suspense, Yours Truly Johnny Dollar, Gunsmoke, Jack Benny and Amox&Andy. You didn't even have to change the station! Of course, Dehner was always "...and Mister John Dehner" on Gunsmoke. I didn't realize that until years later he was Palladin.

I still doubt that O'Shea was Lou's double becuz he doubled for much larger men like John Wayne and Orson Welles.

Don't know what you mean when U say John Dehner was Palladin. Richard Boone was Palladin. Explain please?

If U rarely go to movies but watch at home, U must invest a fortune in keeping up. I still like going, but wife doesn't so we stay home. But we will go to at least one summer movie because I demand it.

Don't remember a Johnny Dollar. Too arcane for me.

The sense itself was I.

Apparently Have Gun Will Travel was a radio show sometime in the 50's and starred John Dehner. I don't remember who played Hey Boy. Lawrence Dobkin maybe.
In the last episode you learn Palladin was the black sheep son of a Boston family. When an uncle(?) dies two of Palladin's relatives scheme to murder him.
At the fadeout Palladin leaves for Boston, telling Hey Boy and Hey Girl he's be back for their wedding.

In the tv show you learn how Palladin reinvented himself when he encounters an doppleganger of himself.

It would surprise me that Jack Shea doubled Wayne since he always seemed built more like Lou Costello, but then Dave Sharpe doubled Tom Tyler in Captain Marvel.

Speaking of short actors, Tom Cruise is starring as Jack Reacher in One Shot with Robert Duvall and Werner Herzog. There is a very good reason for the name Reacher--his height. The word "ronin" comes to mind to describe Reacher. He does the dirty work the police can't. In this case, man is arrested for a sniper rampage, and the police have a perfect case against. Fifteen years ago MP Reacher arrested him for a similar rampage in Afghanistan.I've read three Reacher novels, which are very detailed, and I just can't see Cruise as Reacher.
