Iris Adrian or Gloria Grahame at the end?

In the last scene of the movie, I could have sworn that was Gloria Grahame encountering the professor on the street, essentially reprising her role as Violet the "streetwalker" in Jimmy Stewart's "alternate universe" re-imagining of his life in "It's a Wonderful Life."

However, I see in the full cast credits that "Iris Adrian" is the uncredited actress playing the "streetwalker."

What do you think?

reply

Indubitably Iris Adrian.

I think that Fritz Lang missed a trick with that scene. Had I been in his place I would have had Joan Bennett reappearing to ask him for a light at the very end. It would have made the very perfect ending.

Anyhow this the only bit I can fault in an excellent movie.

Very good point, Altho, and I concur.

That would have added a surreal, Lynchian, time-loop, 'dream within a dream' twist that would have made this a more memorable film. Scarlet Street left us in a much more interesting place and, to me is on another level altogether as a whole.

Time for a new signature, perhaps. Hmmmm...

I agree. It should have been Joan Bennett the way her character was in reality, not the way she was during the movie.

Not necessarily, it could have been Claire Carleton.
