Winged Victory Availability

I am interested in knowing if there is any way to purchase a DVD or VHS copy of this movie.

Has anyone been able to buy this movie?
My Uncle "Hutch" was a Real (not Reel) pilot who is seen tossing his wings in the air and then snatching them with his fist as he was awarded his pilot's wings.

He's only on screen a few seconds but my family would love to have the movie.
He was killed in a dogfight over Italy, he was only 24 at the time.
Please email me at [email protected] if you know where I can buy a copy. Thank you.

Yes, I bought it on DVD recently through a catalog that specializes in war flicks. The film is grainy but Uncle Hutch comes through clear as can be. The look on his face when he got his wings, now that I know what became of him, about broke my heart.

I'm reasonably sure this is a bootleg copy, which is something I normally wouldn't do, so I won't post the contact info here. If you email me, I will pass it on privately. [email protected]

Is this film availablt anywhere? Would Like to purchase if it is,

You might find a bootlegged copy of it on ebay. The quality won't be that good and I wouldn't suggest violating any copyright laws. There you go.

It sounds like, from the synopsis, that it is tied up in litigation and a 35mm print can't be found. This is a first rate movie that I haven't seen for years. Don Taylor steals the movie. Whoever is sitting on this film should get their head out of ther you-know-what and let people see it again! Its too good not to be seen.

I had been told, years ago, that this movie was part of a private library, and the owners didn't make it public. This was information I found after an exhaustive search to find the movie. Possibly the movie may have been part of an estate over which there is some litigation?

My father, having been a pilot in the Army Air Force, was also an "extra" in this movie. The movie used real AAF pilots to do the stunt flying, and I fondly remember my late father telling of "belly landings" in the movie and of the drinking scenes where the "extras" (stunt pilots) were not only included in the scense but also allowed to drink free beer, lol.

Winged Victory has a proud history to it, and I do hope that it is soon made public again. It has been far too many years since I saw it, and the last it had even been edited/shortened for late night tv.

Moss Hart's hit Broadway play Winged Victory was brought to the screen
in 1944, with most of its original cast intact. The story, concerning regular
Joes from all walks of life joining the Army Air Force, is secondary to such
theatrical setpieces as a camp show wherein several virile Hollywood
leading men cavort about in drag. As a break from the all-male
atmosphere, Hart adds a scene in which several wives and sweethearts
discuss their fighting men; among these ladies is 23-year-old Judy
Holliday. Reflecting the fact that most of the cast was actually serving in
the Armed Forces at the time of filming, many of the actors are billed with
their rank included: Pvt. Lon McAllister, Sgt. Edmond O'Brien, Cpl. Lee J.
Cobb, and so on. While the patriotic elements of Winged Victory have
faded in the intervening five decades, the film is worth a glance for its
heady cast lineup of celebrities-to-be, including Peter Lynd Hayes, Red
Buttons, Barry Nelson, and future director Martin Ritt..."
