USS Yorktown

In Re Goofs;
The Yorktown, while badly dammaged at Coral Sea, was repaired sufficiently at Pearl to fight at Midway. She was under the Flag of Rear Admiral Frank Jack Fletcher, and commanded by Captain Elliot Buckmaster.

The USS Yorktown (CV-5), the lead ship of her class and the sister to USS Enterprise (CV-6) and USS Hornet (CV-8), was lost at the Battle of Midway.

The Imperial Japanese Navy thought they had sunk the USS Yorktown at the Battle of the Coral Sea. She had been hit by bombs from Val dive-bombers which penetrated her flight deck, exploding below, killing or seriously injuring 66 men. However, she was able to return to Pearl Harbor for repairs.

Repairs were estimated to take three weeks, but Admiral Nimitz ordered that she be ready within one. Yard workers, working around the clock, made repairs to enable the Yorktown to put to sea again in just 48 hours! The repairs were made in such a short time that the Japanese Naval Commanders thought the Yorktown was another carrier when they saw her again, since they thought she had been sunk at the Battle of the Coral Sea.

Re Goofs: I also noticed that the carrier was depicted steaming backwards in several scenes!
