What happened to Irene Dunne's son's girlfriend?

she goes off to war, in as much as women were allowed to back then, at the same time that Johnny does. But that's where her story ends.
We don't find out anymore about wht happens to her.

I think it was implied that she was killed. I thought they said the son went to meet her and she wasn't there? Could be wrong, but was wondering the same thing.

You are right. I just watched it. She probably died in a bombing raid. He asked about Betsy while he was laying in bed. If she had been alive, she would have been there. To me it showed that it wasn't just men that gave their lives for their country but many of the women too.
