Just wandered into it...

...on TCM right now and I thought it was some kind of Zombie movie! (This sailor's shuffling around with his eyes bugged out). But it's GREAT! Depressing,low-budget, slow, but GREAT! Why don't we hear about things like this?

I taped it and I'm watching it right now. It's a really haunting movie. I can't think of a better word for it.

i dvr'd it, started to watch it and discovered there was no closed captioning....
i like francis lederer and really wanted to see the film but the sound quality was horrible.....had to delete the film.....
wish tcm would have all films closed captioned......

It's a shame the sound quality is so poor on this print, since the movie was nominated for Oscars for sound recording and score. I'm about 45 minutes into it now, and I'll watch it through to the end (I'm trying to see all of the Oscar nominated films) but I have to keep rewinding and cranking up the volume in order to make out what people are saying. That being said, I'm glad TCM ran it, because I had been unable to find it for almost 20 years.

I wonder why they screened this on a weekday with no fanfare. The film's backround on IMDB is fascinating. It could have been TCM's Oscar version of a Friday "Underground" movie.

Every year in February, TCM runs its 31 Days of Oscar. It's THE time of year on TCM to catch oscar-nominated but today obscure films.

Poor sound quality - turning the treble way up can help a lot for some TCM films... it helped me with this movie.
