A Great Showcase of Stars of the Time

Being born shortly after WW-II, I think I grew up in the wrong era. I much prefer the big band productions showcased in this movie. It provides good examples of why Xavier Cugat and His Orchestra Harry James and his Music Makers were so popular in the late 30's and early 40's. Harry James' trumpet solos in particular, justify his legendary status.

The more I got into this movie, the more I was surprised with how many entertainment greats were included like Lena Horne, Gracie Allen (holding her own without George), and my favorite; Jimmy Durante performing his classic "Inka Dinka Doo".

The story revolves around great stars June Allyson and Van Johnson, but the extremely attractive 19 year old Gloria DeHaven held my undivided attention all the way through the movie. What a cutie!

If it weren't for AMC and TCM providing me with good old B&W movies, I'd have no reason to watch TV.

amen! and don't forget Virginia OBrien... you havent seen her until you've seen her sing "Boy did I get Stinkin at the Savoy Last Night!" in Panama Hattie... which also has Lena Horne.

Agreed. If it weren't for the old classics, I don't think I would ever turn on my TV.

I really did love this film. It has the wonderfully sweet old-fashioned elegance which I love.
